Dependence

As I was reading in Psalms one day, I came across a passage that got me thinking, particularly because I was convicted of doing the exact same thing that it addresses in theses verses.
Psalms 106:13-14 says,
"They soon forgot His works; they did not wait on His counsel, but lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tested God in the desert."

They were impatient and wanted instant gratification. They wanted something they could see and feel. They needed to learn discipline. They needed to learn that Jesus Christ is their true fulfillment, and to live in moment-by-moment dependence on Him.

It comes so easily to forget that the Lord is the truest and purest form of fulfillment; that we are nothing apart from Him. When we live in complete dependence on Him our load shrivels to zero and we can then live life fully alive!
A few months ago I vowed within myself to strive, for one week, to live every moment in complete dependence on Jesus Christ. (Trust me; this is a life of dependence on Him, not just a week, but I really needed to learn to be attentive to the Spirit.)  I realized in that time how many decisions are based on my own will and emotion, and how absolutely satisfying it is to listen to the Holy Spirit as He shows me what to do! It made me chuckle when I realized how many times throughout the day I would pause before snacking or meals to ask the Lord if I should eat this. Food in general is a very long and hard battle in my everyday life, and to witness first hand as the very life of Christ in me is changing that dream of being freed into a reality has left me in absolute awe!
